Guide to Choose right Wonder for your Gunpowder Age Base

Here are the description about the wonders in the Gunpowder Age base with its pros and cons.


1.Angkor Wat is the best defensive gunpowder wonder. As it acts almost like a defensive healing war tactic. Which is fairly good for keeping heavy calvalry alive as well as making generals regen a huge amount of hp. However generals getting ridiculous healing from angkor is going to be nerfed if not outright removed in a soon patch so I would question whether to go for that. It wouldn't stop Angkor from being the best choice of a defensive wonder. However you do also have to consider building placement to maximize the healing radius.
  • Size: 5x5 squares
  • Range: 12 squares from building edge
  • When defending it heals 20% of your units HP every 3 seconds.
  • +3 trade good per day

2. Taj Mahal takes way too long to pay off from loot bonus for the cost of building it. 
  • Taj Mahal now increases loot stolen from opponents by 2%, and gives a free Mercenary Army once per day." Screenshots needed.
  • Relatively small area of effect.
  • (Reference/ picture source needed) It increases the health of nearby defensive buildings by 20%.

3. Temple of Tikal refund is pretty worthless as well for identical reasons to Taj. As well as a strong defense making refunds worthless. You can go for almost 2 or 3 weeks without being attacked in gunpowder age if your defense is good enough. What does a refund do to help you for those 2 or 3 weeks? Might be a neat gimmick with Koreans though for the increased refunds. However a strong defense makes refunds redundant to a sense. Which is part of the reason Japanese's longer peace treaty bonus is pretty useless.

  • Stolen resource refund: 3%

4. Versailles is the best aggressive gunpowder wonder. Defensively the slow radius makes Versailles a good way of annoying calvalry raiders that will usually run past it to go to resources but over all it's not something you'll come to pick Versailles for. The real benefit is that it will give all your attacking units a permanent 10% hp bonus.
  • Size: 5x5 squares
  • Range : 4 squares from building edge
  • Hit points: 2,628
  • Troop Health: +10%
  • Slow Amount: +40%

Overall the choice of Angkor or Versailles comes down to if you care about defending your resources more than you care about raiding for more resources successfully. Personally I care a lot more about succeeding in a raid and so I went with Versailles.
